Babies Start to Develop Social Skills On Fifth Month
As early as five months of age, babies already start to develop an important social skill. Want to know what skill it is? It’s called “gazing”. This skill is actually the mother of all social skills.
According to an article in UPI, researchers from University of London used a non-invasive technique called infrared spectroscopy to determine whether a part of a baby’s brain responds to external factors. Their findings show that babies can engage in joint attention with an adult starting on their fifth month.
Joint attention means two people sharing attention on the same object. This skill is very important as baby’s need it for learning language. Babies who are unable to engage in joint attention may possibly be autistic.
So make sure that you help your baby develop his social skills by maintaining eye contact when talking to him. It is important that your baby looks at you and sees your lips moving as experts say that this is one way to jumpstart a baby’s language development.
