The world is all set and determined to introduce Web Safety lesson for its youngest generation. In most countries, children aged between 8-17 years are regular users of the Internet and the parents of many of these young kids are not aware of their online activities. Since you have no control over whether your child is using the computer for doing their science project or is googling material that you may otherwise object to, it is only appropriate that children be warned about web safety issues.
In fact, our children are assumed to be much smarter and adaptable than the children in the West. This also means that we need to be extra careful and observant of our child’s Web activities. Child lock for inappropriate Websites is a crucial solution, however, you cannot be leaving the bread and butter of your family aside to be checking potentially harmful websites so that you can put a child lock on them.
Even though the internet is teeming with useful information, there are many things there that you would want your child to stay away from. The internet, though seemingly harmless, is a potential threat to not only your children, but also you. It is a good idea, therefore, to educate your child about the concept and procedure of content and identity theft through the internet. Now that the children are accustomed to handling computers right from the time they join kindergarten, it is wise to impart this information right when they start with their primary education.
If the school that you send your child to has not taken any steps in this direction, you yourself can take initiative by creating a small Power Point Presentation,
highlighting the need for awareness on Web Safety and the measures to ensure the same. Add more of relevant graphics to your presentation so that they can leave the desired impact on your child and can help them understand the situation better. At the end of the presentation, you can also keep one or two scenario-based questions to assess the learning of your child. This assessment will not only help you know the understanding that your child has gained but will also help you devise an appropriate future action plan.
So do ensure that you provide some good and relevant Web Safety lessons to your child and guarantee that he does not fall prey to the intruders.
