Postpartum depression is something that many women experience. While that is something that women experience after giving birth, a lot of women also experience what is known as prenatal depression.

The primary cause of prenatal depression is the hormonal changes and the discomforts that a woman may experience. About 70% of women experience prenatal depression during their pregnancy. Even if a pregnancy is planned, the woman may be overwhelmed by the stress of pregnancy and the hormonal and physical changes she experiences during this time. If the pregnancy is complicated, this could cause an intensification of emotions and therefore further stress and depression.

A woman may also get depressed, thinking about the potential changes that pregnancy may bring about. If the depression is interfering in your everyday life, you should go see a doctor who will guide you. It is recommended that the pregnant woman be surrounded by supporting people and pleasant environment to ward off depressing thoughts.
